Workplace Experience (WXP) is a programme that helps agencies deliver coherent workplace experiences for public officers across digital services, mobile touchpoints and the physical workplace. Today, workplace journeys often span multiple systems, teams and physical touchpoints, making what should be a simple end-to-end experience feel fragmented for public officers. WXP brings these journeys together through a common mobile front door in Workpal, with shared platform capabilities, and integrated workplace products such as Visitor Management and Access@Gov. The result is a more seamless experience where officers can complete their work without needing to understand which system, service or team owns each step. You will work alongside the programme and product development teams and get hands-on across strategy, discovery and delivery. This includes taking part in agency engagements and user research, mapping end-to-end workplace journeys, identifying where mobile, platform or AI capabilities can remove friction, shaping solutions that cut across multiple products and integrations, and helping define how success is measured after solutions are rolled out. You will get exposure to how a platform product brings different product teams and stakeholders together to solve whole-of-government workplace problems at scale.

Learning Outcomes

- Gain hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaininghigh-performance, secure, and scalable RESTful APIs. Learn best practices for API versioning, authentication, and documentation, and develop familiarity with backend frameworks and tooling used in production environments. - Develop practical knowledge of building and managing CI/CD pipelines to deliver software iteratively and reliably. Learn to containerise applications, automate testing and deployment workflows, and monitor live systems using widely adopted CI/CD tools and platforms. - Gain experience deploying and managing applications on cloud platforms. Learn about cloud architecture, scalability strategies, and security best practices, and understand how to leverage cloud services for storage, computing, and networking. - Develop collaborative skills through participating in a greenfield project — designing and implementing new features and services from scratch alongside cross-functional teams. Gain experience in agile workflows, requirement gathering, and delivering high-quality solutions while applying software engineering best practices throughout.

Prerequisites

- Demonstrated competency in at least one backend-oriented programming language (TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Java, or equivalent) with a foundational understanding of data structures and algorithms. - Working knowledge of Git for version control and experience collaborating on software projects through platforms like GitHub, GitLab, or similar tools. - Basic familiarity with DevOps concepts such as CI/CD pipelines, and an awareness of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their role in modern software deployment. - Basic understanding of RESTful APIs and web services, including how clients and servers communicate over HTTP. - Ability to break down technical problems, work effectively in a team environment, and communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
