Workplace Experience (WXP) is a programme that helps agencies deliver coherent workplace experiences for public officers across digital services, mobile touchpoints and the physical workplace. Today, workplace journeys often span multiple systems, teams and physical touchpoints, making what should be a simple end-to-end experience feel fragmented for public officers. WXP brings these journeys together through a common mobile front door in Workpal, with shared platform capabilities, and integrated workplace products such as Visitor Management and Access@Gov. The result is a more seamless experience where officers can complete their work without needing to understand which system, service or team owns each step. You will work alongside the programme and product development teams and get hands-on across strategy, discovery and delivery. This includes taking part in agency engagements and user research, mapping end-to-end workplace journeys, identifying where mobile, platform or AI capabilities can remove friction, shaping solutions that cut across multiple products and integrations, and helping define how success is measured after solutions are rolled out. You will get exposure to how a platform product brings different product teams and stakeholders together to solve whole-of-government workplace problems at scale.

Learning Outcomes

- Gain proficiency in mobile development frameworks and languages such as cross-platform solutions like React Native, Swift for iOS development, Kotlin or Java for Android development. - Develop skills in creating intuitive and responsive mobile interfaces that adhere to our in-house design system and standards - Learn about performance optimisation techniques specific to mobile devices, including efficient data handling, battery usage optimisation, and network request management. They should also understand how to implement offline functionality and data synchronisation. - Gain experience integrating mobile applications with backend services through RESTful APIs or GraphQL. - Develop collaborative skills through working in development teams, participating in code reviews, and using project management tools. They should gain experience with agile development methodologies and learn to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Prerequisites

- Demonstrated competency in at least one object-oriented programming language (Java, Swift, Kotlin, JavaScript, or Python) with understanding of basic data structures and algorithms. - Working knowledge of Git for version control and experience collaborating on software projects through platforms like GitHub/Gitlab or similar tools. - Prior coursework, personal projects, or demonstrable experience with mobile application development concepts, including understanding of mobile platforms (iOS/Android) and their development environments. - Ability to break down complex technical problems, work effectively in team settings, and communicate technical concepts clearly to team members.
