The Work Permit (WP) Team is part of WINS (Workpass Integrated System), one of the Ministry of Manpower's largest digital transformation programmes. WINS powers a significant portion of MOM's work pass transactions and serves employers, employment agencies and migrant workers across Singapore. As an intern, you will work alongside product owners, business analysts, designers and software engineers to build and modernise public-facing digital services that support the hiring and management of foreign workers in Singapore. Current initiatives include Work Permit Issuance, Cancellation, Renewal, Enquiry Services, Worker and Company Profiles, Medical Examination (ME) Portal, and the modernisation of legacy systems using cloud-native technologies and AI-assisted software development. You will gain hands-on experience in an agile product team, contribute to real production systems used by thousands of employers and workers, and explore how AI can transform software engineering through specification-driven development, automated testing, code generation and knowledge discovery.

Learning Outcomes

- Modern Full-Stack Development: Gain hands-on experience developing cloud-native applications using modern technologies such as Vue.js, Nuxt.js, Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL and PostgreSQL. - AI-First Software Engineering: Learn how AI is applied across the software development lifecycle for requirements analysis, user story generation, impact assessment, code development, testing and documentation. - Agile Product Delivery: Work in a cross-functional agile team and participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, user story development, testing and product releases. - Software Quality Engineering: Develop practical skills in automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, test automation and engineering guardrails used in large-scale government systems. - Large-Scale Public Sector Product Development: Understand how digital products are designed, built and operated at national scale, balancing user experience, security, policy requirements and operational excellence.

Prerequisites

- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a related discipline. - Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g. JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, Python, Go). - Understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, APIs and basic web application concepts. - Willingness to learn and work in an Agile team environment with strong collaboration and communication skills. - Interest in leveraging AI tools to improve software delivery, productivity and engineering practices. - Preferred but not required: Experience with modern web frameworks (Vue.js, React, Node.js), cloud technologies (AWS), CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, or AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot
