Trust & Safety (T&S) – Safer Online Spaces (SOS) is a product and engineering group that builds technology to create safer digital experiences and protect users from online harms. We are building a child-first mobile experience on Android and iOS, exploring how mobile technology, device controls, and thoughtful product design can provide young users with essential connectivity while reducing exposure to harmful or inappropriate online experiences. As a Mobile Engineering Intern, you will work on Android and/or iOS prototypes, explore platform-level capabilities and restrictions, and help build and test features that make mobile devices safer and more age-appropriate.

Learning Outcomes

- Develop hands-on experience building Android and/or iOS applications, including working with native platform APIs and device capabilities. - Explore and implement device management, parental controls, app restrictions, permissions, and other platform-level safety features. - Learn to design, test, and iterate on mobile features through user feedback and technical evaluation. - Gain experience working in an Agile product engineering team, collaborating with engineers, product managers, and designers.

Prerequisites

- Familiarity with mobile application development using Kotlin/Java (Android) and/or Swift (iOS). - Good foundation in software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, APIs, Git, testing, and debugging. - Interest in exploring Android/iOS platform APIs, device management, security, privacy, and digital safety. - Comfortable learning unfamiliar technologies, experimenting with prototypes, and independently investigating technical problems. - Able to work collaboratively in an Agile environment.
