Government on Commercial Cloud (GCC) is Singapore’s multi-cloud platform, enabling over 100 government agencies to securely adopt commercial cloud services - including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud - at scale. As a platform engineering team, the GCC team applies modern engineering best practices - including infrastructure-as-code, automated infrastructure delivery pipelines, and security guardrails- and uses AI-assisted development workflows to build, secure, and operate the shared cloud environment. The intern will be embedded in the team, participating in sprint ceremonies within our Large-Scale Scrum (LeSS) delivery model and contributing to meaningful engineering work. This is not a sandbox exercise: changes to the platform can have an impact across the Singapore Government.

Learning Outcomes

- Cloud Infrastructure & Automation: Gain hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP). - Working with Large-Scale Systems: Understand how engineering changes in large-scale environments, where reliability, security, operational processes, and the impact of changes must be considered across users, teams, and interconnected systems. - Agile Software Delivery: Participate in sprint ceremonies and observe how an established team practises Scrum in a real engineering environment. - Collaborating in Large Engineering Teams: Develop an appreciation for how larger engineering teams coordinate work across roles and teams, manage technical and delivery dependencies, align priorities, and make decisions that balance local implementation needs with broader system and organisational outcomes.

Prerequisites

- Proficient in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g. Python, JavaScript, Bash) - Comfortable using the command line and Git - Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts (e.g. virtual machines, networking, access management) - Experience with AWS, Terraform, or CI/CD pipelines will be an advantage
