To streamline and improve existing operational processes across areas such as procurement, invoicing, contract management and project management. The intern will work with project managers and stakeholders to understand existing processes and user pain points, identify opportunities to simplify and improve workflows, and design better user experiences. The intern will also explore opportunities to automate suitable activities using existing Government tools and AI capabilities. Where appropriate, the intern may use AI-assisted development approaches such as vibe coding to develop prototypes or lightweight solutions for testing with users.

Learning Outcomes

Process & User Research: Develop practical skills in mapping existing workflows, conducting user interviews, and identifying process pain points and inefficiencies in a real government operational context. UX & Process Design: Gain hands-on experience designing simplified workflows, creating user journeys maps, wireframes and interactive prototypes that address identified pain points. Automation & AI: Apply Government tools and AI capabilities to automate repetitive tasks and improve workflow efficiency, including exposure to AI-assisted development approaches such as vibe coding (AI-guided rapid prototyping). Prototyping & User Testing: Build and iterate on lightweight prototypes or solutions through structured user testing cycles, refining designs based on real user feedback. Stakeholder Collaboration: Gain experience working with project managers, business users and technical teams to translate operational problems into practical digital solutions.

Prerequisites

- Pursuing a relevant discipline such as UX/UI Design, Interaction Design, Product Design, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field. - Familiarity with user research, process/user journey mapping, wireframing and prototyping. - Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to understand user needs and identify opportunities for process improvement. - Exposure to generative AI, AI-assisted development (e.g. vibe coding), prototyping, low-code/no-code tools or programming would be an advantage.
